Welcome to my holiday open house

Several of the Stamp Shack ladies are participating in a holiday open house. I'm just one of the stops along the way. Here are some pictures of my home and family that I hope you will enjoy.

If you didn’t join the Open House Around the World at our very first stop you are now invited to visit Far North in Alaska http://farnorthdesigns.blogspot.com/

If you have already visited her blog you are invited to return to the Stamp Shack. http://stamp-shack.com/

Some Early Christmas Cheer

I'm teaching a card and tag class at church on December 5th. Most of the ladies are new to cardmaking so I'm keeping the designs pretty simple. Below is a fun card that I made with my new Fiskars Twinkle Twinkle Squeeze Punch with Heidi Grace and scrap cardstock papers. Easy Peezy.
I made the tag below for Christie's Christmas tag swap. It actually has a lot of texture IRL. Wreath stamp from OBP. This isn't for the church ladies. I have more cards and tags to share another day.

Thank you Veterans!

I orignially made this ATC for my friend Heather whose birthday is the 4th of July. But, I think the message works today for U.S. Veteran's Day. I have 3 cousins currently serving in the military so my heart is with all those who serve. I found this little list of opportunities to help boost the moral of our servicemen and women. Some of them sound like great family and classroom projects.

Like a Princess

Here are 2 last creations that I made for WCMD. I made the top one for Thanh's think pink challenge. I used 2 cardboard die cuts I've been hording for a while along with some fabric flowers and OBP crown, five petal flower and owl.

I had a lot of fun with the ATC. I used the stamps and stamps (ha!) from my OBP Vintage Ladies Limited Edition Kit. I paper pieced using lots of scrap papers and added OBP Strut Your Stuff sentiment. I finished her off with a little sparkle on the flowers in her hair and on her earrings via Stickles.

Dog Pops

Every year for my niece's birthday I make a different variation of Krispie Pops to go with her party theme. This year, I made dogs and dog houses. Here's a tutorial and a few other variations that I've done. And, if you're interested, here's football pops, bunny pops, Christmas pops, and a duck/chick pop.

Falling Leaves

I love fall. We don't get a lot of fall where I live so it's a real treat to visit somewhere with changing leaves and crisp fall air. I made the card and tag below for 2 different WCMD challenges: Tracy's fall colors challenge and Godelieve's card and tag combo challenge. I brayered white cardstock with every brown, orange, gold, and copper ink that I own. Then I stamped OBP leaf with ink and embossed with chocolate scented brown embossing powder. mmmm. I rubbed some Perfect Gold Perfect Pearls powder over each leaf and cut them out.
The leaves are really shiny and multicolor IRL.
OBP just for you sentiment stamp.

Shrinky Dink Fun

As a child of the 70s I'm a little ashamed to say that I never tried Shrinky Dinks until this past Saturday. They are so fun. I chose the OBP plain cupcake because 1)it's super cute 2) it's huge and 3) I didn't have to color a lot of detail. Wow! Super easy. The green card was for Teresa's Hey Cupcake Challenge.
The blue card was for Mandy from Limelights Birthday Card Challenge.

Congratulations Kim H.

Thanks to everyone who participated in my challenge to Rock The Vote! I wrote all the names on strips of paper and closed my eyes while I drew a name. I pulled Kim Hutchinson from Running on Ink. Kim is an amazing collage artist. Every friday on her blog she celebrates Fri-cake day and features a cake/cupcake themed project. Her entry is on the left.
Congratulations Kim!

WCMD Continued

Thanks to everyone who participated in my challenge. I loved seeing your interpretation of the theme. I made a lot of cards yesterday. I'll show them throughout this week.

The top card is for the Limetart spring card challenge (since it's spring in Australia.) I used 3 different sheets of Flair Designs paper and OBP Flora Hugabudous and Thank You.

I made the diaper card for Emi's challenge to make an unusual shaped card. I used Sherry's template from the Stamp Shack with various OBP stamps.
I'll do the drawing for the WCMD winner tomorrow. I'll accept enties until midnight my time (PST) tonight.

Oh Baby

I love making baby cards. For this one I used OBP Waltzing Mathilda alphabet with some Prima flowers, Making Memories paper, ProvoCraft star brads, DCWV cardstock and white satin ribbon.

I can hardly wait to get my hands on the new OBP baby images. A couple months ago, Johanna asked if we had any image requests and I said a baby pram. Check this out. I'm so excited. It's exactly what I had in mind. I think it will be lots of fun putting different characters inside.

Trying Something New

I'm not much of a technique gal so this is a big step for me. I watercolored OBP Ellie Left using water, a paintbrush and my inkpads. I was going for a vintage look.

I'm In Stitches

I made this card for the SCS Inspiration Challenge a few weeks ago. My photo looks bad so I'll describe the card. The base is brown cardstock. On top of that is white cardstock that I handstitched with red embroidery floss. On the squares, I stamped Odd Bird Planet Scrolly Border, Shrubbery, Flourish Right and Thank You with brown ink.
On the left, my niece talking on her zucchini phone. I swear we check our 3 zucchini plants daily but somehow this guy was missed. We had zucchini enchiladas for dinner tonight and I think there will be zucchini pancakes in the morning.

Look "Woo's" Coming Soon

Odd Bird Planet will be releasing lots of new images on August 1 in the newsletter. Add your email address here to get the announcement in your inbox. In the meantime, on the left is Kaylea's Space Owl (which my niece nicknamed "Spacey"). She is thrilled to have her drawing made into a stamp.

Check out the other OBP Design Team Member's blogs for more sneak previews.

A Little Christmas in July

One of the challenging things about design team assignments is that often you are working several seasons ahead. I had a hard time thinking about Christmas when I needed to work on these so I watched a Christmas movie to help set the mood.
I used Flair Designs Holly Jolly Collection O Christmas Tree and Cardstock stickers with Odd Bird Planet Lacy Circle Medium.
On this one I used Flair Designs Holly Jolly Collection Holly Jolly Stripe paper with more Cardstock stickers and OBP Joy to the World sentiment.

Flair also has a new line of Christmas paper called Merry Little Christmas. I am in love with the Holly Berries paper.

I'm So Lucky

My friend Angie from Stampings of the Shug recently ran a contest called, What Can You Make Out Of This. She sent each contestant a kit with the same image, papers and Prima flowers. It is amazing how different the cards turned out using the same materials (see cards here). My card is on the right. My friend Thanh and I tied for cutest and most creative cards.

I colored the image with Prismacolor pencils and added the polka dot ribbon (we were allowed to add one embellishment to the kit) and then used my Fiskars Threading Water punch on the striped paper.

Is This A Record?

I used 8 patterned papers on this one card. This is the larger scale version of my cupcake-turned-flower pot card. This time I used OBP Frosting Only Cupcake and Flora Hugabundous with Thank You. I also cut into the paper I have been hoarding that I bought in France. It's the top flowers with the French script.

Mail Call

This is my first attempt at mail art. It will be displayed in the justjohanna's Odd Bird Planet Boutique in Escondido, California along with mail art creations from the rest of the OBP Design Team members.

I dissected an envelope and then traced it onto a giant calendar page. Then, I stamped OBP You Rock, Little Crown, and Single Note randomly all over.

For the postage I used Alistair and Alma inside the Small Bracket Frame. I drew the wiggle lines over them to make them look like cancelled postage. Then, on the address, I stamped Max Rocker Owl.

It was a good experience to do something different than a card but I don't think mail art is my life's calling. :)

A Squeeker

I made my card featuring OBP Desmond Squeeker Left and a bunch of scraps I've had for a while. Desmond is part of the Lime Tart Full Tart kit currently available at Odd Bird Planet.

Hello Again

I've been super busy planning a big 4th of July breakfast and patriotic program for around 100 people. So, since I have Independence Day on the brain, here's a little card I made to honor the American flag.

I used: white party streamers, ruffled ribbon, Die Cuts With a View cardstock, sticky rinestones, punchinella (sequin scrap) and justjohanna's Odd Bird Planet Al with Stars.

Berry Sweet

I guess I'm still feeling fruity. Strawberry row is one of my favorite Odd Bird Planet stamps. I used it on the dark pink cardstock background and then paperpieced it for my focal image. I also inked up my new OBP sentiment, Berry Sweet.

I pitted 21 cups of plums this weekend. Plum jam anyone?

While we are on the fruit subject, Odd Bird Planet has announced that it has partnered with Lime Tart to bring the fabulous Lime Tart kits to the US. This is great news for those of us who want the fabulous kits without paying shipping from Australia.

Happy Summer, Northern Hemisphere!

Do you ever have a card idea that makes you giggle to yourself? I do. Sadly, today is the final day of WSW. It was so much fun. I didn't get to do all the challenges (hello, there were like 3 dozen) but I was able to combine 3 challenges into one card: Mix it Up (using stamps from 3 different stamp companies), Opposites Attract (using opposite colors on the color wheel) and By the Sea.

  1. Surfer and Surfboards: TAC (The Angel Company)
  2. Sun: Stampin Up
  3. Chicks Dig Me: justjohanna's Odd Bird Planet

She's Owl-o-liscious!

Last week, as part of Owl Week, Johanna held an owl drawing contest at Splitcoast. My niece, OBPs biggest fan, drew 3 images. Her owl in a space helmet, Spacey, won! She is super excited. She can't wait for the next OBP contest!

Feeling Fruity

I guess I've been in a fruity mood lately. The lime card didn't quite come out how I wanted but I think it's cute. I stamped OBP Lime Slice Medium with white ink and heat embossed with clear ep. Layers and layers of scrap papers on an orange cardstock base.

I like taking Christmas stamps and adapting them for year-round. Here, I used OBP Partrige in a Pear Tree with a cut out of a pear from Daisy Ds wonderland paper. I used glossy stuff on all the pears to make them stick out and to coordinate. A little lime green ribbon, doodled lines and some sparkle. Done.
